Colorado Black Bear – Hunt #77-BB

The black bear population in Colorado is on the increase – so much so that one of my favorite outfitters is now offering a fall hunt during the September bear season. Only four hunters will be taken and the hunt will be held during the first week of September.

Many of the elk hunters I have booked here have seen multiple bears while elk hunting. Dozens of daytime bear photos are also taken each year with trail cameras on the hunting properties.

Both archers and rifle hunters can do this hunt. Bowhunters will watch trails and waterholes while rifle hunters will do that plus do some spot and stalk hunting if they desire. Coloration varies from blonde to black. Over 50% of the bears are color phase being blonde, cinnamon or chocolate.

The private properties owned and leased also hold elk and mule deer and bear hunters can expect to see these species and possibly hear elk bugling. This place also has an outstanding lodge and staff.

License cost is $354 plus a $10 habitat stamp. Anyone born after January 1, 1949 must have a hunter education card to apply – Colorado accepts hunter education cards from other states. Application deadline is early April but leftover licenses are available after the draw. A fishing license is included with the bear license and there is some excellent trout fishing nearby.

Includes: meals, lodging, 2×1 guiding, field care of your trophy and caping.
