Colorado Elk - Hunt#49-E1

This hunt is held on game-rich properties in western Colorado. These properties are some of the best in the west when it comes to habitat and game management. Food plots and irrigated alfalfa fields help draw and hold animals on the properties. The outfitter also has hunting rights to some bordering BLM land.

Two lodges are utilized. The main lodge utilizes multiple ranches totaling over 15,000 acres. The hunting here is more physical and hunters should be in shape. However, there are some elevated blinds and places that require less walking. Elevations range from 5500′ to 9000’.

Lodge “B” sits on a ranch having approximately 8000 acres so the hunting is done right there. The hunting at this location is as physically easy as it gets for elk hunting. In fact, much of it is out of elevated box blinds overlooking alfalfa fields. Hunters of any age or physical condition can do this hunt. This ranch has a large resident elk herd and draws in additional elk in the fall.

Archery, muzzleloader and rifle hunts are held. Hunting is done from stands, spot and stalk or by calling depending on timing and situation at hand. Archery tags are either-sex and available over-the-counter. Muzzleloader bull tags are via the draw and have been taking 3 preference points to draw. First and fourth season bull tags are via the draw but have been 100% draw with no preference points. Second and third rifle season bull tags are unlimited and available over- the-counter.

The success rate for the past 3 seasons has been 80%. Many of the bulls are respectable 5×5 and 6×6’s with an occasional 320+ bull.

License cost is $579 plus a $10 habitat stamp. Anyone born after January 1, 1949 must have a hunter education card to apply – Colorado accepts hunter education cards from other states.

Includes meals, lodging, 2 hunters/guide, field care and skinning of elk.
