If you’re looking for a classic, high-country, horseback hunt in some of Colorado’s most scenic backcountry, look no further.

Hunters leave from camp each morning and return each evening via the horses. Once the hunters arrive at their hunting locations, the horses are tied up and hunting is done on foot. The hunt area is a public land wilderness area. Consequently, no motorized vehicles are allowed – it is also very hard to access without horses. It is recommended that hunters arrive in shape. Hunters not in shape can be accommodated as long as we know this up front.

Only 4-6 hunters are taken per hunt. Shot opportunity is extremely high. In fact in 2011, they had 100% shot opportunity in all seasons. This area contains a good number of respectable 5×5 and 6×6 bulls along with some trophy bulls over 320 inches.

The hunt is held in a trophy unit where licenses are obtained via a draw - there are no over-the-counter licenses. Past years’ draw results show that non-residents needed the following amount of points to draw: archery 4; muzzleloader 12; 1st rifle 3; 2nd rifle 1; 3rd rifle 1. No 4th season hunts are held at this camp. Resident hunters can draw some of these tags with zero points, please email or call for more information on draw odds. We can also assist non-resident or resident hunters in obtaining a preference point – deadline is April 3, 2012. The final cost of obtaining a preference point can range from $13-$38 depending on whether or not various Colorado fishing or hunting licenses have been purchased.

Non-resident elk license cost is $579 plus a $10 habitat stamp. Anyone born after January 1, 1949 must have a hunter education card to apply – Colorado accepts hunter education cards from other states. Application deadline is April 3, 2012.

Camp is accessible via 4wd vehicles and consists of heated wall tents. Hunt staffing includes guides, a wrangler and a camp cook. Includes: meals, lodging, guide, use of horses, field care of your meat and trophy, delivery of meat to processor and delivery of cape/antlers to taxidermist.
