Hunt the beautiful Big Horn Mountains for Rocky Mountain elk. This hunt held on the national forest out of heated wall tents. Pick-ups and ATV’s used to get to and from hunting areas.

The Big Horns Mountains are more rolling and not as steep as the Rockies. This particular area is excellent elk habitat consisting of lodgepole pine and spruce for bedding cover and shade and open parks for feeding. The openings also provide the hunters with an opportunity to spot elk as they graze or pass through the parks. The mountain streams are teaming with wild trout and a fishing license is included with your elk license. Some hunters choose to do some trout fishing during mid-day or after they have killed their elk.

Hunting methods include calling and spot and stalk. Many past clients have killed bulls scoring 300-350 with some even larger. Success rates have averaged 70% over the past few years with 90% shot opportunity for hunters willing to put the time and effort into the hunt.

It is recommended that hunters apply for a preference point ($50) during the July 1 – September 30 period - we can assist with that process. Draw odds in 2011 for rifle hunters were 19% with no points, 24% with one point and 100% with two points. For archers, draw odds were 5% with zero to three points, 57% with four points and 100% with five points. These odds are based on buying the special license. It is also recommended to allow us to apply for you in the January elk draw. License cost is $591 for the regular license and $1071 for the special license plus $12.50 conservation stamp. A hunter’s safety card is required for rifle hunters if born after January 1, 1966 - not needed for archery hunters.

Archery hunts are also conducted in Unit 37 and the draw odds are much better there - in 2011, 20% draw odds with no preference points and 100% drew with one point.

Includes guides, lodging, meals, transportation during the hunt, delivery of meats and mounts to taxidermist or processing plant, airport pick-up and drop-off (Sheridan airport).

6 Day Archery Hunt - $3800 for 1×1 guiding (Sept. 1-30) Crossbows are legal.

5 Day Rifle Hunt - $3800 for 2×1 guiding or $4250 for 1×1 guiding (Oct. 15 - Nov 5)
