Hunts take place on large private ranches in eastern Montana. The terrain varies from rolling grasslands, to rough canyons with cuts and pockets of brush and trees. There are also open fields of grain and meadows of hay that lead up to pine and cedar trees. On this hunt you will often see 20 to 50 deer daily. Success rate is over 95% with the outside spread on the antlers between 20-28 inches with 22-26 being about average.

There is also a trophy hunt offered where bucks have scored from 180 - 200+. The trophy hunts are held on a 100,000 acre ranch managed exclusively for trophy deer. A maximum of four hunters taken per year.

Both archery and rifle hunts are held. Archery hunting methods include patterning the deer to and from their bedding and feeding areas and then employing the use of pits, tree stands, ground blinds, decoys and/or stalking to get you within range. Quite often hunters see three or more mature bucks traveling together during bow season.

Rifle hunts are conducted out of vehicles and spot and stalk.

These hunts are held in “General Units” and the draw odds have been 100% with no bonus points. Season dates are October 22 – November 27.

License cost is $597. Bow hunters are also required to buy an archery license ($10) in addition to the deer license. Application deadline is March 15.

Anyone born after January 1, 1985 must have taken a Hunter Education course to obtain a license. Bow hunters must also provide a certificate of completing the National Bowhunter Education Foundation course or provide any prior years bowhunting/archery stamp, tag, permit or license from any state or province.
