Kansas Whitetail Deer - Hunt #47-WD

Hunt Unit 16 in south central Kansas for trophy whitetails. This outfitter has over 7000 acres of private land and takes a very limited number of hunters. Only two bucks were taken off the properties in 2010 – one scored over 170. We had 3 clients there for a 2011 bow hunt and all 3 harvested bucks - their photos are shown above.

The properties consists of rolling hills, canyons, woodlot fingers and river bottom land with wheat and other crops. The outfitter also has mineral supplements out, plants food plots and has feeders running.

Hunts are held in archery, muzzleloader and rifle seasons. Ladder stands and ground blinds are in place. Both guided and unguided hunts are available. Guided hunts are done via spot and stalk or on stand. If a hunter opts for the guided hunt, but wants to hunt alone on stand, the guide will continue to scout and move the hunter if need be. Meals and lodging are provided on guided hunts.

Unguided hunts will be stand hunts and hunters must remain on stand. Ladder stands and ground blinds are provided as are scouting reports and trail cam photos. Meals and lodging are not provided on unguided hunts.

Bucks must score 140 or better to be harvested.Handicapped hunters are provided 1×1 guiding, ground blind hunting and a 20% discount.

Licenses available through draw only. Application period is April 1-30 - online only. Odds of being drawn are excellent. Drawing date is May 31. Cost of deer permit is $322.50 and $71 for non-resident hunting license.

Kansas law requires that all hunters born after July 1, 1957, must successfully complete a certified hunter education course in order to purchase a hunting license or to hunt. There are exceptions for youth hunters under adult supervision.  Kansas does honor certificates of completion from other state approved courses.
